A few weeks back, Ed and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Hospital Club in Covent Garden. Now I’ve known about The Hospital Club for years but I’ve never actually been. Spread over 7 floors on a discrete corner of Endell Street, it’s a members club predominantly, fostering a creative community with its restaurant and several bars, TV studio, cinema, and art gallery, but there are 15 beautiful bedrooms too. You don’t need to be a member to stay, but when you do, you do get access to its otherwise members-only bars and restaurant — so it’s like you’re unlocking a little extra piece of London.
The Covent Garden location is obviously super central, and for out-of-towners, means you’re really right in the thick of it. We stayed on a Friday night and were royally spoilt and very generously given the Suite. The top tier room category. The real crème de la crème. It’s fair to say we were totally, completely blown away. In central London, hotel rooms are generally pretty small and compact; you never expect a lot of space, so we were overwhelmed by the fact that we had a bedroom, a lounge area, a big bathroom and a private balcony all to ourselves. And right in the centre of Covent Garden? It’s crazy! Even Sleeper, the smallest of room categories, is actually pretty roomy…
Interiors-wise, our suite is absolute dream. Pure Pinterest fodder: from the jazzy plush carpets, to the fine white linen, cocktail trolley, and the roll-top bath. The style arty and contemporary, relaxed yet sumptuous at once. There’s a lot going on but it’s well styled, perfectly curated, and totally non-try-hard. I’m stealing tips for when we get our own house…
Out on the balcony, we savour our complementary bottled cocktails off of the trolley, struggling to believe that this oasis that we’re in is actually the middle of Covent Garden.
Dinner time! We head downstairs to the members restaurant and enjoy a relaxed, delicious dinner. We share the potted crab to start, then Ed gets the steak and I go for the salmon with fennel salad — mmm!
We’re zonked and that giant bed (“super king size” to be precise) is calling — and gosh, it’s absolute heaven! We can’t hear a peep! Come morning, the sun shines through and bounces on the sheets. We have coffee and biscuits in bed, flicking through channels on the huge 42” TV, before Ed has to leave early for work.
I’ve got a couple of hours before I’m meeting friends, so make the most of a little me time in the sumptuous surrounds (I’m not leaving a minute before I have to!). Is there anything more glorious than a morning soak? I fill the tub with bubbles, liberally using the REN toiletries. It’s only in luxury hotels that you feel the need to have both a bath and a shower, and use ALL of the little bottles, just so that you know you’ve made the most of everything, right?
It’s time to go. Weeeeeeeeep, but what a night! I’m so pleased to have finally experienced The Hospital Club — it's been on my list for yonks! So luxurious, super comfortable, seriously stylish, and crazy convenient: spend a night at The Hospital Club. You won’t be let down.
