So last weekend, Ed and I went for possibly the most sexy brunch in London…at Sexy Fish. YES, super glam, fancy-pants Mayfair restaurant, Sexy Fish has launched Sexy Brunch Sundays and it’s everything you hope it would be: DJs, vibes, elaborate cocktails, sashimi, glamorous people, tempura croquettes, more cocktails, the freshest seafood…THE WORKS.
My advice would be make it a late brunch — a 1pm-er, ‘cos you’re not going to want to make the most of the booze and the seafood at the crack of dawn, are ya? (Isn’t it funny though on Sundays any time of the meal, we still like to call it brunch?) Dress up a little too (you want to fit in on Berkley Square) and once you’re there, you’ll need a good 10 minutes to read the menu.
We sidled into our booth (a brunch booth — how FANCY) and got think started with cocktails — a Sexy Fizz, and a Bloody Mary — the most impressive Bloody Mary I ever saw, presented in a seriously heavy metal fish jug. Cool.
On to the food…we shared everything and just sort of plucked random things that sounded delicious from the menu. The salt and pepper squid arrived first, light and perfectly seasoned, followed by the chunky tuna tartare with a miso and ginger marinade. Mmmmm.
Next, the edamame and wasabi tempura croquettes. These modest little guys shouldn’t be overlooked. I’m drooling at the very thought… Crisp on the outside, warm, fresh and comforting on the inside... And if you like that wasabi-shoot-up-the-nose kick as much as I do, you’re gonna wanna order two portions…like I did. Seriously, SO TASTY.
Soft, delicate prawn gyoza were next and yes we did have to fight over the last one, then came the tempura rock shrimp (oof!), the charred tomato salad (a sweet and zingy addition to the table) and to finish things off, the grilled tuna steak with a lime and miso marinade. YEP, that was delicious.
MY OH MY, so much magical food. I really wish we could have fitted more in (I mean, we did pretty good already, right?) ‘cos that Sexy Fish brunch menu is a thing of dreams. We’ll definitely be going back though…for ‘an occasion brunch’. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s a ‘roll out of bed hungover kinda feed’, it’s not, but for something special, it’s the dream.
