Chandolin Boutique Hotel is one of the very, very few hotels in Chandolin — the teeny, tiny Swiss ski resort in the Val d’Anniviers region, which comprises of Grimentz, Fang, St-Luc, and Chandolin. We spent 4 glorious days on the slopes there last month, and couldn’t have picked a better base if we tried. What beats skiing down to your door?
Part of the Design Hotel portfolio, Chandolin Boutique Hotel is all slick lines and contemporary designs, and makes use of purely local materials — lots of wood, alpine textiles, and naturalistic finishes. We stayed in South Facing Suite, which was supremely comfortable, spacious for two, and had a balcony that overlooked the snowy mountains and got the last of the sun each evening. A separate little living area had sofas and the coffee machine, and was where we tucked in to our daily pre-dinner cheese and wine picnic! We made the very most of the bath tub, soothing our weary muscles in bubble baths several times a day — as well as in the hotel’s spa, which was surprisingly quiet. We had it all to ourselves when we went after dinner! We spent too much time on the slopes and sadly never got round to fitting in a plunge in the outdoor hot-tubs (you had to pay for those but they looked so dreamy and exhilarating!).
We treated ourselves to one blow-the-budget dinner in the restaurant. It rinsed our pockets dry(!) but it was absolutely delicious, real fancy fine dining, and a proper treat after a long day on the slopes. Luckily, the breakfast spread is included in the room rate, and is sure to set you up very well for the day. Expect freshly baked bread, bircher muesli, local cheese and meats, and the most delicious ‘to order’ scrambled eggs you’ll ever try — so rich you’ll need a little lie-down but boy, are they delicious...
