When we moved to Nunhead a year ago, we didn’t really know anything good in the neighbourhood. We just found the perfect little flat and the rest was sure to follow… A summer on with plenty of long evenings and lush weekends spent exploring, we now have some solid favourites and go-to’s I recommend to everyone who comes this way, and not just in Nunhead but in the neighbourhoods we can walk to too, like Peckham and New Cross.
I’ve been working with TOMS [ad] on a little summer exploring campaign (their comfy sandals really are an explorer’s essential…) so I thought I’d share a few summer-time favourites of mine around here to get you started, should you fancy a visit south of the river…
kudu, queen's road peckham
A bloody great brunch spot with BEAUT interiors (think dusky pink walls and parquet floors), Kudu is where to go when you’re HUNGRY on a Saturday or Sunday morning. My fave is the shakshuka with crispy cavalo nero and parmesan crisps… don’t miss it!
Summer evenings and this is the ONLY spot you need to know in the neighbourhood. Take a picnic (or better yet a couple of pizzas) and some drinks, and join the locals who come up here to watch the sun set with the most incredible view of the city.
the nunhead gardener, nunhead
Ah! Everyone’s fave when they come this way, The Nunhead Gardener is a real gem in the neighbourhood, a mere 200m from our flat! It's the best place to pick up house plants and a serene little place to take a little stroll around. It's teeny tiny, but full of good stuff!
mamma dough, queen's road peckham
YUM. One of the best pizza places in Peckham I’d say, Mamma Dough's sourdough pizzas are always a favourite lazy dinner of ours… I go for the anchoa (anchovies, chilli and capers) every time — oh, and the burratina is also too good to pass up. A great for picnics in the park.
the white hart, new cross
One of my favourite pubs down this way, The White Hart has a great craft beer selection (including The Kernel, Beavertown Neck Oil and more) and you can sit outside and watch the world go by… They put some great nights on at the weekend too — it’s a good spot for a boogie.
pedler, peckham rye
My total favourite brunch spot, Pedler, located at the nicer end of Rye Lane(!) has a great menu with a focus on seasonal produce. Go for late brunch, and hang about for cocktail...
This post was created in collaboration with TOMS, who are doing only good things, including giving a pair of sandals to someone in need for every pair purchased.
