There’s something about vegan junk food that feels SO DAMN GOOD, and that’s why I’m bigging up The Vurger Co in Shoreditch. I LOVE IT. I’m not vegan (i’m pescatarian) but it’s proper delicious, and honestly, even though it’s burgers and fries, you don’t leave feeling weighed down and kinda gross like you do after gorging at some places.
I wouldn’t say I’m hugely into burgers but that’s mainly because it’s pretty hard to ever find a good veggie burger, even in London (shouts to Five Guys and Dirty Burger who I do really rate). Fries though, I live on. At Vurger Co. it’s not fake bacon and seitan and all that jazz, it’s all plant-based so you can expect delicious, wholesome veggie patties in soft brioche buns with ALL the trimmings that the vegan/ veggie burgers places always like to forget on like burger sauce, American cheese and gherkins. Yes, I’m veggie so GIMME THE GHERKINS. You’ve got four vegan burgers to choose from, plus options to double up (yes), add extra cheese (yes), add avo (yesssss), and then sides like fries, vegan mac and cheese, and slaw. And shakes! Vegan milkshakes, which are DELICIOUS, and if you’re feeling it, you can even make them tipsy vegan shakes!
We went for the Classic Burger (black bean, chargrilled pepper and corn patty, with gherkins, cheese and burger sauce) and MLT (roasted ‘shrooms, borlotti bean and parsley patty, with sun-dried tomatoes and walnut pesto) and both were buff. The Classic was my fave, just proper straight up burger vibes. The fries are great too, as is the the super-lightly dressed slaw.
The food itself is bloody delicious, feels kinda healthy (as healthy as burgers and fries can be), and the interiors are totally cute. Get yourself down!
