Small plates and sharing menus are great, except for when there’s too much choice and you want to order THE LOT. At Crispin, a perfect little dinner date spot just off of Spitalfields, the menu is mini and ‘one of everything’ is a written option — all yours for £45. Ideal.
I first saw the Crispin menu on Instagram (’tis the way of the modern day) and hotfooted it down there for a mid-week dinner earlier this month, which I absolutely, totally loved. With the weekly changing menu so brief, it’s pretty much a set menu vibe, give or take a few snacky bits. The drink menu is also delicious, with a focus on low-intervention wines, plus cocktails and pale ales.
I loved everything. Every dish. From the sweet roasted pumpkin with sage, to the rich and comforting dauphinoise, the fresh kohlrabi salad, and the beautifully baked mackerel. We got the pappardelle without the fennel sausage but with extra Parmesan and fought over each forkful…just too delicious. We finished things off with the panne cotta to share (additional to the £45), served with fresh figs and home-baked granola, which again, was bloody great.
The space is relaxed and pretty (picture dried flowers, terrazzo surfaces, simple tables and chairs, and a small open kitchen), the service is spot-on and the team are chatty and casual, and the menu changes each week — you can always find it over on Instagram. Prepare to want to go back often.
