Running + Races Update: I’m On Pause!

I realise I haven’t talked much about running on here recently at all so I thought I’d do a little update and get us up to speed. Things were going so swimmingly until well, the burn blip. As you may know, I had to very begrudgingly pull out of Paris Marathon back in April as my hip tendons were being sketchy and everything was so, so painful. It was a hard pill to swallow at the time, it really was, but in hindsight, it was so the right thing to do. God knows what would have happened going into 42km with a “bearable” injury…

Anyway. I took some weeks off and then signed up to Valencia Marathon (December 3rd) as a new focus and my replacement race for Paris. All’s been going well and after a sticky, hot summer (with a lot more time in beers gardens than with my Garmin…), I totally got back into my groove once the weather cooled off. I set myself the challenge to run 100km in August, which I LOVED, documented on Insta, and found suuuuper helpful as a motivational tool. September was ace too; I upped my distance to 17km+, on track for December’s marathon, and travels meant I grinned and danced my way through some proper memorable runs including those in Paris, Amsterdam and NYC.

Fast forward a couple of weeks to this burn and skin-graft drama, and I’m now on pause. Total pause. “Pottering” and “gentle walking” were the doctor’s orders, and “strictly no running”. Eurgh. I’ve pulled out of Valencia Marathon (boo!) mainly because I can’t train for 6 weeks, but also because we’re now going to reschedule the India trip that we had to cancel and it clashes. It sucks, it really does. Pulling out of a race is never easy, and it was only when the surgeons told me I wouldn’t be able to run for the next couple months that I broke in to tears over the whole leg/ burn fiasco. But, you know what, it’s all good. It’s only one marathon, there’ll be others. And a few weeks out is annoying but it's not that long and hopefully it will feel EXTRA good to get back on the road. 

SO! Not one to ever be told no, I’m on the hunt for a new marathon to train for. Spring ’19 sort of time would be good and I can't be doing with the stress of a ballot! I’m thinking Barcelona or Brighton, I’ve heard both are really good. Maybe Manchester too… Anyway, I’ll let you know!
