Finally, we’re making it to India! 8 weeks and one skin graft later, it’s finally happening and I couldn’t be more excited. I think the fact that we had to postpone the trip, though totally traumatic at the time, has actually turned into a bit of a godsend as it means we’re gonna have better weather there, miss worse weather at home, and be home just in time for Christmas. Plus, we’ve had eight extra weeks to build up excitement, to the point that I’m now pretty much bursting at the seams.
I’m determined to share as much of the trip as possible on here, as soon as possible, but in the meantime, I thought I’d give a little run down of our itinerary in case you’re planning something similar, or maybe I can help inspire a little upcoming adventure… After a few trip changes (the original original plan was Kerala but it didn’t feel right or respectful after the terrible flooding), we’ve finally settled on the below…
LONDON TO DELHI — we’re flying direct to Delhi, a nippy 8-hour overnight flight, and hotfooting it straight out of Delhi to Agra. I hear Agra is a bit of messy meh destination, but hey, it’s home to a few must-see sights, including the wondrous Taj Mahal.
AGRA TO JAIPUR — After one night in Agra, we’re travelling by train to Jaipur — a 5 hour journey that we’ve booked in advance. I’m so bloody excited to experience my first ever Indian train journey!
RAJASTHAN — We’re spending just under a week doing a whistle-stop tour of Rajasthan, with a few nights in Jaipur (the jewel in the crown of the region), a night in Jodhpur, a night in the desert an hour outside of Jodhpur, and a couple of nights in Udaipur. People spending weeks, months even, exploring every corner of Rajasthan, and I so wish we could squeeze in more, but as we’re short on time we’re just doing I hope to be key highlights. If we love it, we’ll just have to go back!
UDAIPUR TO MUMBAI — Next stop Mumbai! We’re flying down from Udaipur as we’re tight on time, but it is possible to take a long overnight train if you’re travelling on a tighter shoestring. We’re doing two nights in Mumbai and have a LOT to squeeze in. I’m looking forward to the chaos I’ve heard so much about…
GOA — Ahhh, then we’re slowing it right down and spending 5 blissful nights chilling out on the beach in Goa. Again, we’re flying down from Mumbai, but if we had more time, I’d have loved to have done the 14-hour train journey instead, as my parents said it was quite the experience! We’re gonna base ourselves in Agonda in South Goa on a few recommendations, and don’t really plan to do a lot more than swim, eat, drink ice cold Kingfisher, and soak up some winter rays. Can’t wait!
See you on the other side!
