If you’re anything like me and find yourself strangely most productive working on your laptop over a glass of wine, get yourself to Mare Street Market, where leisurely lunches can roll into brilliantly productive working sessions. Basically an unofficial co-working space, Mare Street Market is the perfect place to set yourself up for a day’s work — assuming you like buzz, hipsters, and don’t mind forking out for the odd coffee/ avo on toast/ martini or four. The open-plan space — complete with florist, record store, coffee shop, antiques market, deli, cocktail bar, and kitchen — is beautifully designed, with plenty of greenery, full of natural light, and there's outdoor seating on the terrace too.
I went last week, laptop in tow, for an afternoon of getting my head down and getting sh*t done. Obviously, one can’t work on an empty stomach so you’re gonna wanna order some food. Get the calamari, it’s super light and tasty with aubergine and capers in the mix too. And as cliched as it now is to order in London, the burrata is pretty good here too. Pizzas are on the heavier side with a hella generous sprinkling of cheese but will certainly fill a gap. I’d say risk the carb coma and order a Green & Red pizza: with mozzarella, pesto, rocket and pecorino. You can’t go wrong with pesto on anything, right?
Belly full and all fuelled up for an afternoon of work, all you need now is a glass of wine to nurse and you’re golden. Who needs a WeWork membership, eh?
