3 Activewear Brands I’m Loving Right Now

May 22, 2017

I’ve always thought what you wear to workout has a major impact on your mindset and confidence. If you’re starting your morning staring at yourself in a gym mirror for 40 minutes every day, it’s important you like what you see. A lot of people feel out of their comfort zone in the gym, so why wear anything that’s going to make you feel less than great?

I was invited to a boxing class with a brand the other day and was dressed in their kit — a black and pink tight vest. a bulky 70s-sports mom-style sports spa, and some sheeny, thin capri leggings. I felt gross, and so awkward and uncomfortable, and my attitude to the whole class was so negative — I genuinely considered walking out twice. Granted, that’s a bit extreme, maybe I just wasn’t feeling it, but I do think it has a huge impact…

If I go into the gym thinking my get up looks fly, I’m all set up to think my workout will be fly too. And that's the important thing here. Mindset is everything in a workout, and I’m all about ‘feel good, DO good’. With all that in mind, I thought I’d share 3 brands I’m really bloody loving wearing on rotation at the moment.

Jilla Active

So this is a brand I was only recently introduced to via email, they kindly sent me a couple pieces and I am really not taking them off! I’ve got the Limitless Leggings, the High Tempo Sports Bra, and the Break of Dawn Hoody, all of which fit so well and feel so comfortable to workout in. The sports bra fits really well and the V-neckline doesn’t plunge too much (hate that look!) but it’s the leggings that are my favourite. They look tiny but have amazing stretch and the thick, tight fabric sucks your butt in so nicely. The high ribbed waistband isn’t too tight at all though so doesn’t make your skin squeeze over so all in all: perfect.

I’d stalked ADANOLA on Instagram for a while before getting a few of their gorgeous pieces. I’ve got the Marl Square Neck Bra, the Half Zip Track Top and the Red Stripe Leggings, and I can’t fault a thing about any of them. I’ve Instagrammed them all quite a lot as I’ve pretty much lived in them — especially the leggings with their red go-faster stripes (they fit like a glove and are so lightweight and breathable), and the grey sports bra — the square neckline is so lovely and a bit different, and we all know I love a little  gentle padding! Love the jersey feel and it just fits so nicely. I wouldn’t wear the zipped sweater to workout but I love it with jeans and Stan Smiths at the weekend.

A brand that I'm ~guessing~ you've heard of and doesn't really need an introduction, it probably comes as no surprise to you that yes, I'm a big fan of adidas. Along with every single pair of my trainers being adidas (the UltraBoost X are my favourite for running), the vast majority of my fit kit is too. It's a brand that I not only admire for its creativity but also for its focus on performance — you know every piece you buy from adidas has been rigorously tested in labs and by athletes, so there's no doubt it won't live up to your requirements and do the job well. Performance aside, the fabrics are great, the styles are always flattering, as for the Stella McCartney pieces, they're all just LUSH.
