Tried + Tested: No.29 Power Station West

No 29 Power Station West

Sunday brunch is somewhat of an occasion in my eyes so I don’t mind travelling a little way for a good one. The weekend before last, Ed and I tried No.29 Power Station West at Battersea Power Station, one of the first openings of its grand regeneration. Judging it by the location alone, I was already SO excited. Battersea Power Station is my absolute favourite buildings in London so I was buzzing to see what its got going on around it. No.29 Power Station West is part of the Darwin & Wallace group, which has the likes of No.32 The Old Town, No.1 Duke Street and No.197 Chiswick Fire Station, so if you're a fan of those, you're going to love the similar light and airy, perfectly dressed interiors of No.29. Two floors, No.29 flooded with light, has beautiful parquet floors and an industrial-style central bar. Downstairs, on entry level, there’s a cocktail bar (which I’ve not doubt is totally heaving on an evening), complete with neon lights and photobooth — they’re clearly in touch with their millennial market!

The weekend menu is vast. We pondered the menu over cauliflower fritters which were bloody delicious and got our appetites flowing.  Being late brunchers visiting at noon, the roast dinners were starting so Ed went for the beef brisket whilst I went for more brunch-specific mushrooms on toast with truffle… DROOL! I can’t see truffle on a menu and not order it… Naturally cocktails are obligatory at brunch so I went for a classic Bellini and Ed a Bloody Mary. The portions were generous and delicious. Ed’s roast was massive, with Yorkshire puddings, potatoes, veg, the works, and mine, though smaller, was served with lashings of parmesan.

We rolled out stuffed and set up for the day. We had to get back for DIY duties but it’s totally a spot you could while away a few hours or let a boozy brunch roll out to dinner. Next time I’d be up for trying the triple cheese and avocado toasty (yum) or the breakfast rice bowl. It’s not the cheapest of brunch spots but it’s a sumptuous spot and the menu and atmosphere are a definite crowd pleaser — great for taking the fam too I’d say.
