I’m more of a smoothie person than a juice person, and on the mornings I hit the gym, I always try to start the day with a good old breakfast smoothie — one that's going to fill me up, fire me up, give me enough energy to beast the gym, and get some good stuff in me first thing.
Being a real morning person, I’m someone who needs fuel as soon as I wake up (I can make it to about 7:30am without a feed...) and as much as I’d love to have the time to make oats or eggs in the morning, I don’t, so my morning smoothie is wholesome and hearty enough to be ‘breakfast’. We all know having something in the morning is good for the metabolism too, so if you are someone who struggles to force food down first thing, this could be a good solution to firing up your system.
Call me boring but I tend to stick to the same smoothie most days: the ultimate combo that not only tastes good but is protein-rich and keeps me going ’til lunch time, give or take a little snack with a coffee or two… Its key components are banana (for energy), hemp hearts (for protein) and turmeric (for flavour, anti-inflammation and all its other health benefits), and I swear, it's going to make you feel good...
2 tablespoons hemp hearts
a generous splash of coconut water
a tablespoon yoghurt
a teaspoon peanut butter
quarter of a teaspoon ground turmeric
